(The World’s Soul)

I am interested in understanding how we can enhance our visual awareness of our surroundings and foster a deeper connection with the earth, with a particular emphasis on water. I have long felt connected to water as I spent my childhood splashing in the brown muddy, fragrant bayous of Louisiana's southern coast that stained my clothes. Water was everywhere I turned. As an adult, I find myself longing for a connection to the water around me. "The land knows, even when you are lost" (Kimmerer, "Braiding Sweetgrass" ). This desire led me to begin collecting water samples along the Kalamazoo River (only one county so far; Calhoun) and viewing drops under a microscope.  The tiny microorganism that swirls across the plate creates a beautiful world that visually links me to the cosmic. It reminds me that I am not as significant as I believe I am as an individual, but I am whole in my connection to all things.
